Aventura City of Excellence School admits students of any race, color, national origin, religion or gender. First consideration for admission will be given to residents of Aventura and dependents of military personnel on active duty in accordance with Florida Law. When the number of applications received within the open enrollment exceeds the number of seats available, a lottery will be conducted to determine admission.
In the event a lottery is conducted, notices will be mailed to applicants within 14 days of the close of the initial enrollment period.
Aventura's state-of-the-art Charter School opened in August 2003 and houses 900 students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. It is operated by the city in conjunction with Charter Schools USA.
Along with after school programs such as sports or dance classes, we offer Before and After Care. It is available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. every school day on a fee basis to all children attending ACES

Construction, and other types of noises, are allowed on weekdays from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Construction is not allowed on Sundays or holidays unless special approval is received by the City Manager prior to the work being done. The City's code requires that all dogs, when not on the premises of the owner or the person in control of the dog, must be on a leash under control of a competent person. Furthermore, it is unlawful for any person in control of any dog to fail to remove fecal matter of the dog from any public property or any private property not belonging to the owner or person having custody of the dog. "Pooper Scoopers" are provided for use by the residents in many areas of the City.

Take action to correct the violation and pay the penalty assessed. If you have questions, or if you are working on correcting the violation but need more time due to special circumstances, contact the officer that issued the violation. If you disagree with the violation, you may request a hearing with a Special Master.
If the violation is not corrected in the amount of time allotted, the offense may be scheduled to be heard by a Special Master. The Special Master hears your case and may dismiss the case or issue an order directing compliance within a specified time frame. The Special Master may also assess fines and administrative costs if the violation is not promptly removed.

Anyone operating a business within the City of Aventura is required to have a Certificate of Use and a Local Business Tax. The Local Business Tax was formerly known as an Occupational License. Fees are determined by the type of business or profession, and must be filed annually, prior to October 1.

Home businesses require a Home Local Business Tax Application along with proof of residency such as a utility bill.
Any person, firm, association, or corporation maintaining a business location or branch office within the City limits for the privilege of engaging in or managing a business, profession, or occupation, within the City. Any person who utilizes a residential unit to conduct a home business, profession, or occupation. An application is required for each separate classification at the same business.
The penalty for operating without a current Local Business Tax starts at $250 and can escalate to imprisonment and closure of business.

The ducks found in the City of Aventura around ponds and other waterways can be a mix of native and migratory waterfowl. As with any wildlife you come across in Florida, it is never a good idea to feed them. Wildlife need to retain their natural instincts for survival. When animals are fed by humans important instincts, like migration, can be altered. The seemingly "helpful" act of feeding ducks can change their natural instinct to migrate back to their natural breeding grounds.
Food handouts can also increase the number of birds in a small area causing a potential for the spread of disease with increased droppings near water where it can travel through the local ecosystem. The dependency of wildlife on people for food can also cause nuisance situations and conflict between people and animals.

911 is an emergency response service provided by the Aventura Police Department to assist residents needing police, fire and medical assistance for emergencies. 911 operators are trained in (EMD) Emergency Medical Dispatch, and provide critical instructions to callers until rescue units arrive.
911 Emergency calls should be made only when a crime is in progress, a fire, a medical emergency or any other situation needing immediate attention.
Dial 305-466-8989 for all non-emergency police related matters. Utilizing the 911 system for non-emergencies could prevent someone with a legitimate emergency from getting immediate access to help.
A vehicle, registered or leased to you, was photographed by an automatic camera monitoring a traffic signal that is active upon vehicle movement after the light is red. Not stopping at a red light, flashing red light, malfunctioning traffic light or at a red arrow is a violation of Florida State Statutes §316.074(1) and §316.075(1)(c)1. This includes completing a right turn in a non-careful and prudent manner, and/or completing a right turn at an intersection with a “No Turn On Red’ sign.
Violators will be assessed a $158 penalty if paid within 60 days of the postmark date of the Notice of Violation. After 60 days, a Uniform Traffic Citation may be issued with a fine of $277.
Your notice number and PIN number are located in the red box of your Notice of Violation, and are needed to view and pay the violation.

Public Works manages and maintains all public property including public streets, facilities, right-of-ways and medians within the City limits. The Public Works Division issues permits for any work within the public right-of-way in the City, and is responsible for fleet maintenance. In keeping with the City's philosophy of operating the government as a private business, all of the public services are contracted to the private sector. This approach to delivering public service targets the public dollar to direct services, rather than related costs such as equipment, personnel, commodities and supplies.

Many people think storm drains connect into the City’s sewage system and that everything placed in the drain will end up at wastewater plants for treatment. In actuality, storm drains lead to local waterways. Here in Aventura, almost all storm drains eventually drain to either the Intracoastal or fresh water aquafer. Debris and contaminants can enter the storm drain system by way of stormwater runoff.
When it rains, water falls on the ground. If that ground is covered with pavement or buildings, or any other impervious (nonporous) surface the water runs off of the surface and into our curbs, down our storm drains and ends up in our local waterways. Runoff can even occur on previous surfaces when the rainfall is heavy, or the area is sloped and there is nothing to slow the flow of water over the land and into the streets.
Runoff carries pollutants such as nutrients, oil, dirt, trash, metals, chemicals, and fertilizers into local waterways.
According to the EPA, "a typical city block generates more than 5 times more runoff than a woodland area of the same size." Not only is there more runoff from developed areas, but there is also a significant increase in both the amount and variety of pollutants in that runoff.
